Morcos Smeika Pasha arranged a special vast wing for the library in 1920 located in the south end of the Coptic Museum. The library holds an interesting collection of manuscripts, ostraca and important reference books, which were originally stored in El Moallaka church, and mainly dealing with religious subjects
The two sections of the actual library display separately the manuscripts on one hand and the books on the other, ostraca due to their large number have been displayed in a third independent section.

Biblical fragments, liturgical texts and scrolls dating back from the 4th to the 19th century are accessible in the library, all texts were originally written in Greek, Coptic, Syrian, Old Nubian, Arabic and Ethiopian languages; some manuscripts are bilingual as they were written in Coptic and Arabic languages.
